Week Ten, Term One

 Class seven has been reminded to bring their harvest produce throughout this week, non-perishables Mon to Fri, and perishables Thurs-Friday only.

They are also supposed to be researching material for their projects at home, and if they require printing- email me the items they have found, and I will print it out.

In their bags should also be the sheet for ordering school photos- they all look amazing despite their protestations to the contrary.

St Michael and Harvest Festival

Golden light is turning grey,
Mists begin to rule the day.
Bare the trees, their branches lift;
Clouds of dead leaves earthward drift.

Through the field the farmer goes,
Seeds of ripened corn he sows;
Trusts the earth will hold it warm,
Shelter it from cold and harm.

For he knows, that warmth and light
Live there, hidden from our sight;
And beneath a sheltering wing,
Deep below, new life will spring!

Deep below, deep below, new life will spring!

Because we are unable to hold our usual Harvest Festival and St Michael play, the class has organised the collecting and giving of the harvest produce.

We have also discussed the original verses regarding the story of St Michael and his battle.

We have viewed several art works from medieval and renaissance times, depicting St Michael. We observed the use of imagery, the placement of his sword, and where in the art work the dragon was depicted.

   Welcome to the Class seven 2022 home learning Blog

Within this blog you will find tasks related to the following learning areas:

Main Lessons

Mathematics

Reading

Writing

Art

Each learning area task will have a date, identifying title, and a list of requirements (such as - please send your answers to Lesley by email, or, complete this task -take a photo/video, and upload to Lesley, or, keep this piece of work until we are back at school and actually sitting in class 7)

Mathematics Number 1: Dragon Maths

 Every student in class seven already has at home (or should have at home) a plastic sleeve with chapter one of Dragon Maths- On Track 1 inside. This was taken home during week 2 of the year, with the instruction to put it somewhere safe, or give it to Mum for safe keeping.

This chapter is an initial one for the year, with foundation skills everyone should be familiar with. This chapter can be worked through at their own pace. I can be contacted if anyone is confused or requires clarification. (lesleym@ch.steiner.school.nz)

There will also be challenges and supplementary tasks posted under the heading of Mathematics, so it will pay to keep checking in.

Reading Number one

 Each student should be reading for a sustained period each day. For some students this is already a given, but for others it is still a growing habit.

                                              Reading mileage is important.

Reading from more than one genre is also valuable, meaning a diet of purely graphic novels is a good starting point, but graphic novels interchanged with other genre, or graphic novels interchanged with purely the written word (to allow minds and imaginations to conjure up scenes and images for themselves) is also important.

Writing Number One

Writing at home

Keep a diary/journal or record of events around you. If you are at home, who is doing the cooking? what are they making? Are you doing any cooking? if not, why not?

If you are away from home, keep your record around the differences between home and your new places. What are you seeing that is different? what are you eating that is different?

In your daily writing, I don't just want a shopping list, or bullet points of what you can see, but rather your thoughts about what you can see, hear, touch, taste etc

If you can upload pictures, I am happy to receive those as well.

This work can be done at anytime during this at home learning period, but when you are finished, please email me your work (lesleym@ch.steiner.school.nz).
